Navigation Concept

A concept for navigating between levels via a stairwell. This navigation framework can be scaled for one-to-one or shorter navigation in a Cube-based environment or via a seated position using the Leap Motion controller.  Much like existing multi-level navigation concepts (e.x. teleporting, ray casting, etc.), the use of these methods are anticipated to heighten realism of vertical motion and reduce disorientation and postural instability.

The green pad functions as an action state. When the user walks over the virtual pad, it will fill and prompt the user to begin walking forward.  Although the user walks on a planar surface, the system renders a virtual view of moving upwards and forwards, eliciting a mild sensation of walking up stairs.

The Leap Motion concept could be applied to the Cube environment as well; further reducing disorientation possibly.
