Honda Acura Precision Cockpit Reveal!

Some of you may recall I spent the summer of 2015 at Lextant, a comfortably sized UX firm in Columbus, Ohio. There, I engaged in conceptual design and formative research for an in-vehicle infotainment system. I am proud to say the concept was officially revealed at this year’s CES event in Las Vegas. Honda Acura’s human-machine interface system, or HMI for short, is dubbed the Precision Cockpit.

The team and I at the time were solely responsible for the HMI strategy of the center stack and dashboard screen elements, including the information architecture and interaction techniques for a myriad of applications. I helped build the first touch-enabled interactive prototype for the concept and offered unique design and interaction concepts that appear to have made it through to the current design including the navigation paradigm for accessing an “All Apps” list and subtle additions to the audio screens. I was also allowed the creative freedom to ask and define new interaction modalities for the unique trackpad interface, challenging myself to fundamentally rethink existing touch-enabled interactions as they pertain to selecting points-of-interest and navigating applications with the use of a single finger. This novel interior concept is slated for production in the next couple of years. Please see the links below to view additional content from Honda. Till' next time...
