DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM
(Home Screen User Interface)
As part of a class project, I designed the home interface for a decision support system that operates within an Incident Command Center for disaster management. I applied my knowledge of cognition to aid the design. Gestalt principles, including graphical representations and spatial based proximity, were utilized when designing the visual icons. Salient colors, such as green and red, were used alongside supporting shapes and pictorial images in an attempt to replace working memory demands with perceptual ones. The drop-down list reduces serial searching and supports decision making. The four other team members in my group were responsible for three other additional interfaces. The work shown above is entirely my own, with the exception of the bus, stadium, and grocery basket icons and the iPad stencil, which were found online at various sources. All design work was completed in Microsoft PowerPoint.
